Almost 70% of tablet owners are spending at least an hour everyday on their tablet device.

This data was reported to AdMob, which was released in their March 2011 “Tablet Survey”.

Included in that initial figure, 38% of tablet owners reported spending over 2 hours daily using their device. Another statistics from the survey stated that 28% of tablet owners are considering the tablet their primary computer and 77% are spending less time on their PC.

The findings from the study also show that more than 40% are spending more time using their tablet on a daily basis than with a computer or smartphone. Over one third of users are using a tablet device more than watching television. Tablets are being used 59% more than people are reading paper books and 52% more than listening to the radio.

All of these numbers show how the device is affecting traditional media.

The portability factor

The study also discussed the portability of tablet devices. Although tables are portable by design, 82% of owners said they mainly use their device at home while only 11% said they mainly use theirs on the go. The other 7% primarily use their tablet while at work.

What these results mean for online publishers

Among the activities performed by users on tablets, “searching for information” and “emailing” were the second and third most popular.

Online publishers continue to have the opportunity to communicate with their audience via email while having their organic content present within search engines. This behavior has not changed.

However, online publishers now have the chance to make their content tablet-appropriate by creating media-rich experiences.

The tablet has changed the way people consume media while leading an evolution in the ways online publishers can create and spread content.
